IT's strange to me that people count Fennekin as a fox when the is a literal fox in the story of the origin of the zodiac. The fox was a trickster who tried to cheat their way into the race to become one of the zodiac animals and was tricked by the emperor who told the fox the wrong location for the race.

I just think that Fennekin is the fox, like the cat, representative of one of the two animals that are a part of the zodiac origin story, but they never made it to the twelve. The cat just didn't show up, and the fox was being shitty to everyone so the emperor told the fox to fuck off.
