yeah exactly – i think there's definitely room for some kind of balanced implementation of a mechanic along these lines. what kind of numbers we'd be looking at though i couldn't say – i'm sure there's others with more in depth competitive experience who could input more on what may or may not work

Two times per Pokémon. So if it's a six on six, a total of 12 times. It doesn't need to be 2 times do an individual Pokémon though, just based on team size so it's applicable for more formats.

I think a limit, not removing switched entirely, would actually help force people to strategize more. Or it'd just make fat teams take over more, haha. I agree knowing when to double switch does involve a good amount of skill, compared to other strategies, but just switching endlessly to a new wall is hardly a strategy that requires thinking.

Does nothing because it's almost always worth it to just take the damage, lots of ways are available to remove it, and many of the strongest Pokemon outright ignore it. And more recently you can negate it with an item.
