>>44307764>>44307783>>44307787I am rather tired and annoyed at the oft-parroted idea that Psychic's weaknesses were chosen based on common phobias. It does not *entirely* make sense, and I am positive it isn't what the game designers intended in any case.
I know Rattled is an Ability, but shut up.
No, I think Psychic is weak to Dark pretty much purely because they needed to nerf it. I think it's weak to Ghost because psychics and spectres are both paranormal things. You could easily argue that Psychic should beat Ghost instead, but again Psychic just needed another weakness that made some sense.
I think it's weak to Bug for two reasons. 1.)because the big bad boss in Gen I was Mewtwo, and Psychic was very very strong in general back then, so it it playing off of the trope of "strongest class is defeated by the weakest class", and 2.) because Bugs are annoying and get on your nerves and if a bug is attacking you it's difficult to concentrate.
>>44307792Because there is no need for it to. Psychic covers such a wide array of different things and the cosmic connection it has is so common across all of Pokémon (including several that AREN'T Psychic Types) that the idea of a Cosmic Type could legitimately work as its own separate thing. Psychic covers cosmic, but it doesn't NEED to.
It's like, what if there was no Ice Type and everything related to it was covered by Water? Yeah I know, some people already argue that it should, but it clearly doesn't NEED to, right? The two things are thematically distinct enough that they CAN operate as separate entities, y'know?
