You can call gen 1 a lot of things, but "uninspired" is just objectively false.
It was a passion project made by some guys who has no idea if it would succeed and ended up creating the most successful IP in the world.
Gen 1 walked so gens 2, 3, 4, and 5 could run, and so gens 6, 7, and 8 could tumble down a flight of stairs.
