BW2, because Aspertia to Virbank is my favourite early game in the series. Lots of cool things to see and fun routes. Hell I'll add Castelia because the sewers were fun. Lots of Pokémon variety in the early game, nice locations like Floccessy Ranch and Virbank Complex.

Unironically Y. Yes, stay with me.

I've played since Gen 1 and have always transferred pokemon up across the generations. When X/Y came out the pokemon I'd had for over a decade were suddenly in 3D, and I could now pet them and play games with them and they had new moves, abilities, and even some transformations/types to work with. Aside from that, I just really like the region and find it very fun to play through; I've actually replayed my copy of Y four times (after I put all my oldmons in Bank to ship to Gen 7 which I deeply regret) and I always have a blast with it. Mega Evolutions are my favorite thing pokemon has ever introduced and I love basically all of them, and enjoy the new power some of my old favorites have. I still find myself going back years later to play the Minigames/Super Training simply because I have a blast with them, I love the pokemon introduced in the gen, the region is genuinely comfy to roam and fun to explore for me, and even though Team Flare isn't perfect, I do enjoy Lysandre and find him a fun villain.

I also don't actually mind the friend squad and I still remember their names. Tierno is a bro.

As for why, it's a perfected version of my favorite Pokemon gen, the difficulty is perfect, the post-game is amazing with a far better legendary hunt (and Arceus questline) than GF ever could do, insane QoL additions that make team building a smooth process (EV training facility, gen 5 style infinite TMs, faster breeding, important egg moves added to level-up learnsets, many more), added events like sidequests and an endgame boss rush, many buffs to shitmons that are now all interesting to use, great Pokemon distribution, and more.
I used to not even consider fan games and rom hacks as "real" Pokemon games, but I'm at a point where they're all I play now.

Idk about favorite, but I'll talk a bit about my experiences:
First is Diamond, which I played for a LONG time (since 2007) and completed the national dex for and recently exploited the tweaking bug. It's home for me.
Then I played Sapphire, which I loved because of how big the map is and how there was so much exploration (at least that's the impression I remember).
Then I played white, which I don't remember much from, but I do remember liking it.
Then I played SS, which I didn't finish (gonna play soon).
And finally Black 2, which was really beautiful.I really enjoyed the PWT and Black Tower in it.

Idk about cloning, but it probably isn't difficult. There are always tutorials.

Gaia is great, but I don't have much experience yet with rom hacks other than enhancement ones.
I'm going to play Clover soon. Fan projects are getting me back into the series.

Because the word "clone" would be in massive quotation marks and they'd just snatch it and run. I'd rather not take that chance with a pokemon I've had for roughly sixteen fucking years now.

Also, cloning without hacking requires you to have a second 3DS and I'm not knowledgeable enough for the former to do it without fucking something up or wealthy enough to afford the latter (why would I buy a second 3DS if I'd hardly ever use it?). So I just transferred them.

To be fair though, I don't regret moving them to US/UM entirely because I have had a lot of fun with them there and I fucking love Kommo-o. Also, I was hatching Swinubs for a friend when I got a fucking shiny one in five god damn eggs and I grew so attached to it that I DID have it cloned (because this was years later and by this point in time I knew a friend I could trust), got multiples of the Swinub, then took the one I planned to use and put it in bank, deleted my Sun file, put it in Sun and used it as a replacement starter for a nuzlocke run revolving around the Shiny Swinub. It was really damn fun.

That Swinub is still on my team with the gang to this day. I also got asked for a drawing of a Shiny Mamoswine with a little army helmet and cigar (since I always imagined him being a soldier) and I got the most glorious fucking piece of art I have ever seen.

Needless to say I love that Mamoswine. So I don't regret it entirely, but I do wish I could've had someone that I trusted clone them back then.

Probably either BW2 or USUM. Unova is one of my favorite regions, especially since I started with White. (No, I'm not underaged, just started playing a little later in life.) I also really enjoy the BW2 story and pacing. USUM IMO have the best difficulty in the series, and a lot of fun battles. They also have the most modern features and include both Megas and Z-moves. The only reason I haven't replayed UM is that I haven't paid for Bank recently to get my pokemon out.

BW. I remember loving that I had to use 100% new pokemon and I loved that the story questioned the morality of keeping pokemon in pokeballs (something that at the time I had questions about). I loved how the gym leaders were protectors of their towns and region too. I also loved that the HM areas were completely optional, it allowed you to use whatever pokemon you wanted, which coming straight from the DP games, was a fresh idea.

I can't wait for remakes in like 5 years.

I like them all, but I have the softest spot for all Hoenn games. Currently playing emerald, there's just something amazing about how wild the region feels. The only downside is that, while I see what they went for with a region that was half land half water, I still DREAD the oceanic routes. They're too annoying for their own good, especially the ones with strong currents. I wish I wasn't a completionist faggot who feels bad at leaving even a single item or trainer not touched.

And yeah, I loved ORAS too. While I hate the fact that they were dumbed down and the way they redid the region with FUCKING SQUARED GRAPHICS BECAUSE MUH NOSTALGIA, they also had amazing enhancements in qol terms and character development/fanservice. Zinnia a shit, but Delta Episode stays kino.

Seriously, isekai me somewhere around Mossdeep and I'll be happy

best balanced combo of gameplay, region/lore, pokemon, improvements, difficulty, level curve etc.
B2W2 is good gameplay (and B1W1 - good story), but I dont like most gen 5 pokemon and the region is so-so (and I also think all japan regions 1-4 are far better than regions 5-8)
other contenders are Emerald, HGSS and maybe even ORAS
