There are areas with loads of polish and areas that suck hard and are blatantly not cooked well.
If you play as intended it is pretty easy (as per standard), but if you do something like only use 3 Pokémon on your active team, at most 3 levels below your highest fought Trainer and abstain from Dynamax in Gym Battles it is pretty fun, especially since Candies and shit make it very easy to control levels of Pokémon you catch and Wild Area (And Isle of Armor if you own the DLC) gives good variety right as soon as you reach it (well before the first Gym Badge), the forced EXP.Share isn't actually as bad as it first sounds (because the new/LGPE PC system means you don't really HAVE to carry 6 mons at all times and can cycle your team immedietly if something gets oveleveled.)
The main (Legendary) storyline(s) suck, but the Gym Challenge itself is actually pretty enjoyable in how it is basically the first time it is really treated as a Sport.
This is of course disregarding the NatDex and Home debacle.
