How big of an offensive stat difference do you need on a Pokemon before you no longer consider them, statistically, a mixed attacker?
I'd start us off and say 10 points in either direction. So if you have a 100 attack stat, your special attack can range from 90-110.
I'd like to hear anons' arguments. Does this change with higher/lower numbers? Would you classify a 160/140 attacker a mixed attacker, for instance?

There's a lot of factors to keep in mind beyond just stats, such as movepool and your ability. For example at a first glance Nidoking leans physical, but almost all of its sets are either special or have some physical coverage ever since the physical/special split, and even ran plenty of special and mixed sets before Gen 4.

it depends on how big each of the stats are, really
mega chomp was used as a mixed attacker even though it has 170 attack and 50 less special attack, simply because its stats were so big

It helped that Garchomp has some terrifyingly powerful Special moves in the form of Draco Meteor and Fire Blast too. Base damage for moves can help carry a weaker attacking stat on mixed sets, usually to stop it being stalled by dedicated special/physical walls.

Meanwhile; you don't mention Infernape [literally equal Sp.Atk and Atk].

Also; Fighting is a physically-based type. That's a simple fact. Just like Rock and Ground. And like Psychic is an overwhelmingly Special-based type.

I would say it’s not the difference, but how underpowered one side is and if you even need it.

There was a bigger difference between Kyurem-B’s Atk and SpA than Nidoking’s, yet the former only became a dedicated physical attacker after finally receiving Dragon Dance and Icicle Spear, while the latter is actually a dedicated Special Attacker despite having a worse SpA, because the Elemental Punches are shit and it doesn’t have a physical ground move as powerful as Sheer Force Earth Power.

This is one people harp on a lot, and it's true I'd like more special Fighting types, but I'd really like more special Rock types. Most of the pokemon who use Power Gem aren't even Rock type, and the ones that are are just mixed attackers.
