my personal fan theory is that this is why humans have type affiliations (and some have powers like the psychics). like, a thousand years ago a human fucked a plant waifu, and now it's family tradition to name kids ivy and cherry and to work well with plant types. and the inbuilt genetic preference is why you don't get kids named rocky who grow up to be water specialists. and there's no hybrids because pokemon breed true, parents one way round would produce human children with inherited moves, parents the other way round would produce exclusively pokemon.
