You already have this massive sprite sheet from FRLG, so you have a lot of references for how to do things like shading, specific textures (scales, fur, carapace etc) and color schemes. Use this resource. Compare your sprites with designs with similar elements and inspirations to see how those were executed. Really, these references are your strongest tool here if you want to imitate the style. I know mine doesn't do it perfectly yet, but the improvements gained from Anons' critiques and using references are undeniable.
