Obstagoon is an afront to nature, and I can't believe some people like it. I was so excited when they showed Linoone was evolving, since it’s one of my favorite Pokémon. But then we got the terrible tube-legged fursuit trash design that is Obstagoon.

Obstagoon criticism thread. Other criticism of bad evolutions of good Pokémon are also welcome.

Silence beytafag. It's a finished design, the people who finalized it know more about what makes a good design than most people here ever will. They've studied, they've tested, they've concepted arted. They know what they're doing.

It is based on a rocker. Also there's nothing wrong with humanoid Pokemon. If you don't like cartoon style stuff why are you playing a cartoon series? Zelda Windwaker was cartoon and it was good.

None of this shit is justification for it looking bad. It doesn't fucking matter what it's based on it if it's on-theme if the execution looks like a massive pile of shit. The amount of controversy surrounding this thing makes it obvious that they missed the mark.

Duh
Where is the proof that
1. They finished a full and varied design process, reaching a suitable conclusive design
2. They did that AS WELL AS every other shitty gen 8 design
3. They didn't just rush them out because of the looming deadline
4. The people who did Obstagoon's design in particular are not the same as the ones who designed Zigzagoon and Linoone and had absolutely no conception of those Pokémon, they were simply selected at random for a new regional form

It's not objectively bad on an individual basis, no. But if you can look at the amount of fucking hate this thing gets and not realize that means there is something inherently wrong with its design you're fucking blind. The status quo determines that it is objectively bad.

Genuinely the worst design in the entire series. I'm not someone who thinks that gen 8 is just bad in general, I think a lot of the designs are great, but Obstagoon is by far my least favorite Pokemon GF ever designed. It couldn't feel less like a Pokemon, it's just total furbait. Even Incineroar is better off.

I'm not defending the design but that seems like a terrible argument. Also Zigzagoon and G-Zigzagoon are great but Linoone and G-Linnone are terrible. I never evolve my Zigzagoon.

I disagree, a single instance of a pokemon having personality is good, like Ash's Charizard being disobedient, Lillie's Cosmog being impatient/mischievous, or that one blue-eyed surfing Pikachu from the anime. Assigning a personality to a whole species is dumb, especially when said personality is so rooted in real-life pop culture. Imo, it detracts from world building

I am the only one there that think that Perrserker shouldn't have been an evolution for Meowth but his own thing instead? If you tweaked his design a bit it could be decent.
I find it a bit dumb that Meowth got regional forms two generations in a row desu

They would have been better if they where more like the Alolan ice type forms, have the pokemon adapting to the environment rather than slapping facial feactures on them. dressing them up in clothing/objects or just them being recolored with shitty colors
