The Unowns represent one concept. That is that one mere letter like "E" is weak, doesn´t have any sense, that´s the reason behind of Unown being so useless, but the letters have a "Hidden Power", when they get along, are capable of transmit a "mEssage" being now "words" and the words are a powerful thing.
Just like God in the Genesis, he just say "Let there be light" and the universe was created.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God".
For us, Unowns are letters, but this language doesn´t exist in the Pokèmon world, almost...because this is the language of Arceus itself.
It just said "PALKIA" and then, the space started to being a thing.
It just said "DIALGA", and then the time started to flow.
