Stealth Rock is still legal in the seperate LGPE OU meta despite none of the removal options for rocks existing in those games, meaning they are permanent battle hazards.

The power level was increased with the introduction of life orb, choice items, and better moves so it would not be that much like gen 2. The only reason why rocks were so important is because defog was not invented yet.

You know what I meant, but in case it was unclear: defog only removed hazards/screens after gen 6, before that is was never used competitively. The only way to clear hazards back then was to use rapid spin, but it had poor distribution and could be spinblocked by ghosts.
