You can't know if a feature in a Pokemon game was good or bad unless it is carried into the next game. If it is, then it's a great feature and Gamefreak was based for including it. If it gets cut then it was terrible all along and Gamefreak is based for cutting it.
Scientists are still trying to understand how features that get cut then re-added again (like following Pokemon) seem to exist in a state of quantum-quality-uncertainty that retroactively gets better or worse depening on whether they are currently being observed in the latest generation of Pokemon games.
