It's kind of better in lower tiers where a sponge can actually fuck someone due to lack of options, it's kinda silly how from NU and below you rarely ever see mixed Attackers.

Unless the Pokemon wearing an Assault Vest can switch into a special attacking threat and knock it out, you are better off with Leftovers as the gradual healing is a much better deal.

Only when people put Assault Vest on frail mons and think "OMG IT HAS BULK NOW I CAN SURVIVE ATTACKS AND KEEP CLICKING STAB MOVES". Assault Vest is a pretty damn good item if you know how to use it.

Agreed, if a mon can run Expert Belt consistently, that mon is extremely busted without the item in the first place (e.g. E.Belt Greninja back in gen 6 and everytime Genesect shows up in OU, Expert Belt always shitstorms people)

It has legitimate uses, but noobs definitely use it too much. Seems like they overvalue the bulk, undervalue the lost utility, and completely forget all the residual damage in the game.

Actually, its kind of decent now. Some all-out attacker make good use of it if you have a good wish-passer on your team, the extra bulk makes tanking hits on the switch easier. I've had some decent luck with Assault Vest on Conkeldurr (The one everyone uses it with) Azumarill, Tangrowth, Alola Muk, Bewear, and Buzzwole. Tried it one Shaymin once but it was kind of disappointing.

I figured if Flareon is going to have such a terrible stat spread I might as well go all in on having good attack, special defense, and special attack. With a full investment in special defense (EVs and +So def -Def nature) as long as I send him out vs a special attacker there is basically nothing they can do. Plus coverage is great between Superpower, Mystical Fire, and Scorching Sands. I just use Quick Attack for the final moveslot on the off chance I can revenge kill something with him because everything else he can do sucks. I used to run Iron Tail to kill fairies with him but eh, more like Iron Miss.

AV TTar was a lure set to fuck up Mega-Zam because even without any investment, Pursuit just instakills it. That it had the benefit of also slapping the Latis and pretty much any special psychic type real fucking hard was just a magical accident.

AV becomes relevant the more balance thrives.
If the meta switches to HO or stall discovers a trapper Magmatran whirlpool Azumarril then it drops off immediately.
It's such a shame that I can't use whirlpool Azumarril like in past gens, fucking up people with him was so much fun.
