>>44396352It's weird how some Gym Leaders across the series just get completely ignored while others within those same games get the usual attention gym leaeders get, using Gen VI as a template, you get at least a bit of banter with Grant & Clemont and a good amount with Korrina and Wulfric before battling them and Viola kinda retroactively gets some attention through her sister.
Kanto's Gym Leaders would largely be the same if subsequent generations didn't iterate and improve also it helps the Anime promoted Brock and Misty to major characters and you get stuff like Lt. Surge & Sabrina's anime equivalents having pretty significant roles. Prior to any anime or sequel games though the only Gym Leader who's really remarkable in any regard is Giovanni.
Johto's got a few good ones with Whitney, Morty, Jasmine & Clair and in Post-Game HGSS Falkner as well. Hoenn, the most obvious is Norman but Wallace, Wattson & Flannery (yeah I'm aware she has fuck all to do but her pre-battle dialogue does a lot of heavy lifting) also get some good characterization, Winona has got to be one of the most inconsequential and irrelevant Gym Leaders in the series though, she's the only one where you can get to the League without fighting her, no other generation even Gens I and II did that.
After that you generally get a bit of banter from most if not all the Gym Leaders in Gen IV, V and the Trial Captains in VII although some of them are retroactive similar to Viola and Falkner.
