Well ignoring that you could say there's a pattern, but only if yourevery artistically specific. Galar is largely the most urbanized region yet. Why isn't it counted as urbanized? Unova itself isn't even that urbanized, especially if you're playing White where Opeclucid City is incredibly old-fashioned and Black City is instead White Forest.

actually some color scheme ties in with each gen

R/B/G/Y = X/Y
G/S = S/M
R/S = Sw/Sh

the next gens could be Navy Blue/Pink, then Black/White.

i don't know if the colors fit with each Region's lores.

The topography is based on NYC, the locations not so much. There are a LOT of rural locations in Unova, much more so than Galar.

It was an off-handed comment to justify the Dex cut (poorly). The region itself is temperate.

gamefreak starts their brainstorming around the time they release their games and it takes them the current gen's full game cycle to finish it. They probably had an idea in mind while finishing up swsh but covid probably changed that. A region with some influence to japan with close proximity is 100% an asian region. Unless you want a theme park region for a western urban region.

Hopefully because of COVID they make another Japanese region. There is room for like 3 more. Eventually when they make an open world game we will benefit from regions being connected to each other.

A region based on modern urbanized China is going to be weird given all the geopolitical shit happening right now. Not sure if GF wants to deal with that right now.

If it's urban, then South Korea or just Japan itself again is more likely. I wouldn't mind the series coming "home" just one last time and tying further with any hypothetical Sinnoh remakes or Let's Go Johto.

Not a chance in hell gen 9 is finished. Gamefreak said they only began work on gen 8 when SM came out, and it took them a full year to conceptualize galar. They're likely working on the region and new pokemon concepts right now, then around november they'll start actual development on the game.

In a case of an eventual open world game with all regions, western regions can still be accessed through plane or boat.

I just wonder how will they fit Hoenn and Galar which are rotated in theri current maps from their real world counterparts. Kalos and Galar could still be accessed just by surfing.

Since this is a western region, I could see it being "off the map" which means the rotation wouldn't make much of a difference.

Mhh you're right. Also, just like the same with Johto and Kanto. It seems that Unova and Kalos have a close relationship in their history.
The considerable amount of artistic pieces from Kalos that depict a lot of Pokémon from Unova like statues and paintings, not to mention that Kalos had a lot of Unovamon in their Pokédex are witness of this
