Assuming Zodiac pattern is real and not entirely a delusion, when did it start? when did game freak decide to only use zodiac animals, gen 5? cause it seems pretty coincidental up until gen 8.

They were using Zodiac in Gen I to provide inspiration and the fact Cyndaquill even exists as a Fire starter is proof they were working off it past Gen I, they initially tried a bear cub design, before scrapping it.

There probably won't because invertebrates include things like worms, jellyfish, sponges, arthropods, and mollusks. These creatures are not marketable because they're either gross or boring. Jellyfish and octopuses probably would have the best chances.
