It should be flying type though. Yanmega's design is based around flying, speed and wind. Speed boost, air slash, the loud humming of its wings. What is dragon about it other than an English pun? You do realize that they design Pokemon based on a multitude of cultures, but the names are always Japanese words/puns/portmanteaus, right?
They aren't going to search other languages for name/visual references since they're going to stick to what makes sense in their native language. Gamefreak isn't going to pander to your autism by confusing their own Japanese players. Fact of the matter is that Bug/Flying still makes sense regardless of any English dragonfly pun, so there's no reason to fight it either. If you want a Bug/Dragon so bad, hope for a new one coming Gen 9 or play a romhack that changes Flygon into one.

That's true, but dragons are always able to fly since having wings is natural for them (unless they're defective or injured). Steel needs to be melted down and crafted in order to be able to fly, and even then it usually stays on the ground.

Because there are no other bug/dragon types, a dragonfly would be the most obvious choice for a bug/dragon type, and adding another dragonfly pokemon would just clutter the dex (and also probably look like shit). Of course you could make a bug/dragon hybrid, but I've yet to see a good design for one that isn't just "dragon, but with an exoskeleton". Also, it looks monstrous like a dragon- it even has spikes on its back, reminiscent of stereotypical dragon designs.

Agree, also yanmega has some draconic traits on its design. Making it another bug flying was a missed opportunity.
Another potential bug dragon type in my opinion was gigantamax Centiskorch, ok it has flames but just look at it.
