>>44417110The novelty of only new pokemon felt really fresh. I know Unova's dex gets a lot of hate, but I think a lot of it is undeserved and exaggerated by people who hate the generation in general.
Usually you could say some of the most important pokemon in a new dex are the starters and the first route mons, because if those suck (like it happened in gen5) you leave a bad first impression for the rest of the region.
But if you can forgive the early game, the dex starts picking up in the Pinwheel Forest and from that point on you keep finding a lot of great designs.
The pacing too. People tend to say how much they hate the constant interruptions, but they aren't that bad: it's either a few lines of dialog from a character you meet (which helps making the region feel alive) or a little story-related sidequest before continuing your main quest, which has always been a thing in the series.
I prefer this way of gradual storytelling rather than what they did in BW2, where 90% of the story is compressed between 2 badges in the lategame and it makes the main quest feel short and rushed.
As for the story, the climax is probably the best in the series because it's the only entry where they managed to fix a underlying problem that has been in most pokemon games regarding how the "sidequest" of defeating the evil team undermines the victory of the league.
They also had something really interesting going for the co-protagonists and N, but sadly they fuck it up on the Dragonspiral Tower event by a shift of focus and the story gets rushed towards the end. Considering it happens at 1 badge from the league, the fault behind this may lie in time constraints during development.
