>>44430452Gen 1 hate is 90% a product of fags believing they have become enlightened by watching a youtube video that picks apart flaws which barely even come into play. Playing them without that knowledge, you don't even notice them or see them as a problem. Pokemon games aren't about battle mechanics unless you are battling somebody else. They are about collecting pokemon, building a cool team, and going on an adventure. The music in gen 1 is probably the overall best in the whole series to this day, the gen 1 designs as a whole are still the best, especially considering the superior art of gen 1 before the series needed to have rubber corners on everything. Great atmosphere and memorable moments like SS Anne, Bill being transformed into a pokemon, reading journals about Mew and Mewtwo in Cinnabar Mansion, etc. Had the best rival who you actually cared about beating. Gen 1 also had better caves and facilities than every generation since. Really, the only thing newer games surpass gen 1 in are obviously the number of pokemon to collect, QoL stuff. Gen 4 has better routes, Hoenn is probably the most well laid-out region, I think gen 5 had the best competitve meta despite all the weather stuff, etc. Taken as a whole though, gen 1 is still amazing, probably the best outside of HG/SS.
