Noob here, can anyone explain what makes Magearna so OP in singles considering how its ability is just special Moxie?

Literally nothing can safely switch into it.
It has absurd coverage to the point it has a move to hit any potential counter, it has enough bulk to live a STAB earthquake from basically anything, with two of calm mind/shift gear/iron defense it can setup on anything and sweep with stored power and draining kiss, it has trick to fuck over Rotom-H/Volcarona/Chansey, Specs Fluer Cannon has enough power to two hit KO even resists.

80/115/115 bulk is pretty good for a Pokemon that also has 130 SpAtk. Add its excellent MovePool (Volt Switch, Aura Sphere, Shift Gear, Calm Mind, Fleur Cannon, Flash Cannon.)

The fact that the DexCut got rid of plenty of its counters.

Magearna couldn't ask for more right now.

No, it's a better Moxie.
Moxie only activates if you directly KO an opponent, not when they die from recoil or passive damage.
Soul Heart always activates whenever the opponent faints.

Correction: It's special Moxie where Magearna doesn't even need to kill the opponent.
The opponent can be killed by anything and Magearna can still get the boost. In doubles, it even gets the boots from its own ally dying.
Its ally can use Explosion while it protects, kill both of the opponents, and give Magearna a free +3 SpA.

Garchomp is a bad example, Mag has the same SpAtk and Defenses as Heatran so in a way, Magearna is Fairy Heatran after a Shift Gear with Speed Boost, special moxie and has Mew's movepool.

Magearna's SpA matches Garchomp's Atk, and +2 Magearna has the same speed as +1 Garchomp.
It's not a perfect comparison, but it represents how much of a punch Magearna packs.
