Falinks looking like a caterpillar under certain circumstances (like the angle you and the leaker posted) is only a coincidence. Have a good look at it in any other way and it's super obvious it's not supposed to be a bug. On that one picture alone, people just assumed it was intentional and could not let go of their headcanon despite being disproven. Shit was memed so hard that even Bulbapedo is pushes it despite Falinks' names, phalanx concept, design, abilities, or movepool having inherently nothing to do with insects. It learns First Impression (Head-on Collision) and Megahorn simply because they ram into shit with their horns, which aren't bug-exclusive features despite the typing.
Fighting/Steel would've been nice though.
