>>44433029As someone who enjoys the original series for its cheesy old anime crust and thinks everything anime-wise from gens 2-5 is varying levels of bad, I actually really like Sun and Moon. It doesn't follow the "watch Ash get 8 badges and groan at Team Rocket introducing conflict where there was none while the girl maybe does some contests" formula that the anime's been doing since the very beginning. It's more character-driven and slice-of-life. The recurring cast is actually quite large, even many of the "character-of-the-day" type characters show up more than once in this series which is practically unheard of. I understand why it's so divisive among people though, the direction it goes and the art style are both very different. It's all subjective, but I think the art style shift was a good choice, even if it might take some getting used to. The people and Pokemon are a lot more expressive than they used to be, with a lot of visual comedy that actually lands sometimes.
This series is also where Team Rocket's at their best, if you like Team Rocket. They don't show up as often as they did in the older series, which is great for making when they do show up much less repetitive, and their relationships with eachother actually develop a lot. It's good stuff.
As others suggested, though, don't watch the dub. The dub is pretty rough. Pokemon dubs have always been spotty but Sun and Moon in particular is pretty hard to listen to. It gets better with the new series, Pokemon Journeys, but if you watch Sun and Moon find the subbed version somewhere and save yourself some pain.
