I don't even care for new legendaries, the main problem is that two legendaries in SwSh is through story progression while the other is just given to you
You can't go explore some kind of dungeon while solving puzzles along the way to find and catch one without paying a dlc paywall

The mascot legends have been tied to the story progression since gen III and their catch rate has been high since gen IV, they have been obligatory captures since gen V.
This is not a problem exclusive to SwSh.

The issue is its treated much more like a job or profession since without the shield its literally just a dog while bastiodon's wall is actually its face's armor. It's like if vikavolt was a bug holding a railgun instead of a bug with a railgun mouth.

The furry influence goes back way before that. I would say it really started with Lucario, or hell even Blaziken now that I think of it. Though I think Blaziken was more of just a humanlike design rather than being furry-inspired. And don't get me wrong, I actually like both of those designs, I just don't think they really fit in with Pokemon's style at the time.

I agree, we have so many giant monster legends that they are becoming meaningless. In theory, stepping down to smaller legends is a good idea. The execution was terrible though, they needed a way more detailed story to carry them properly.
On a side note, I especially hate that they gave these things incredibly high stat totals. They should have been legendary bird tier in stats.
