Also, masters focuses on trainers before Gen 8. The majority of people who bought SS were trendy types who never have played a main series pokémon game in their lives, and probably never will again.
In short, masters is good, and anything good, like Gen 5, is destined to be unpopular because people can't appreciate something good unless it's trendy/flavour of the month/etc. They only want what's trendy and has Pikachu and Charizard 5 seconds into the game.
