Scorpions irl are very cautious and use more their poison or pincers to immobilize their prey. Some scorpions are better with their pincers, others have more potent poison.

This is your brain on competitive. Empoleon is perfectly serviceable in-game. If you look at its movepool and can't come up with anything other than "Scald/Toxic/Defog/Stealth Rocks", that's on you.

When people here refer to "in-game", they usually mean single-player. That's poor wording on your part. If you had said "competitive" or "online", then it would've made more sense.

My point still stands. Just because Smogon only has a single, optimal Empoleon set listed for competitive play, that doesn't mean it's the only thing it can do. You're just forcing yourself to think that it can only do what Smogon tells you it is the best at doing, like a little bitch. If you really gave a shit about Empoleon you could look at its movepool and come up with something that isn't just a utility build.

Dude when did I EVER even mention smogon? You're doing an awful lot of projecting right now and making some pretty bull shit accusations. One glance at Empoleons stats, abilities, and movepool and its pretty fucking obvious there's only one role it can effectively perform in this day and age:
>It's slow and only has above average bulk at best yet lacks any recovery whatsoever.
>Torrent is useless and Defiant is crap on it since it's stats clearly orient it to be a special attacker.
>It does get Swords Dance and Aqua Jet but even that is trash with its base attack being so lousy and it having no way to live long enough to generate multiple boosts or increase its speed outside of fucking Agility so even if you could get boosts it'll lose to anything that walls Aqua Jet
>It has modestly high special attack, but no effective way to boost it
It has the movepool and typing to play utility, so thats the ONLY option left to it. If they gave it shit like Calm Mind and/or Roost and something better than Defiant (Competitive?) or reworked its BST to be more physical it could do a lot more but the fact is as is it fucking can't. All it can do is utility. Period. If you have better ideas I'm all fucking ears. And no, your meme weakness policy set is not a good idea.

Considering your point is about Empoleon only being limited to its popularized 6v6 singles set (which is listed on Smogon), you kind of did, intentional or not. Since it's very apparent you're super concerned with optimal builds, there is literally no other format you could possibly be talking about since Empoleon wouldn't be running Rocks or Toxic that you mentioned in 3v3 BSS or 4v4 VGC/BSD.

I don't play smogon but I do have a large friend group that plays 6v6 singles. I don't know what more you want from me. I have tried tons of sets with it and short of absolute trash sets like petaya/WP the only option available to Empoleon is utility. If you would like to refute this with examples I'm all ears.
