They are good as shorts, and what a stupid question. Of course they’re going to prioritize making marketable anime instead of actual good anime. If they wanted they could fully adapt adventures or even do a full generations-style anime but that would be a high risk high effort low reward move. Ash/Pikachu + Pandering = easy money.
Also those shorts were by no means low budget, the animation/art was insane. Sasuga studio colorido.

No over the top shit, no ancient evil awakens, no dumb cliches. Just a comfy and immersive window to a believable version of the Pokémon world.
No cringe Yokai Watch dances, no team rocket interrupting the plot, no repeated tropes. It was 10/10 would have paid for.

Nope, the sakuga is great and the colors are very pleasing. The character art style is also consistent and well drawn. Producing 24 min episodes with that quality would take far more budget than the current pokemon anime does.

This show was fucking stupid.
Why is this kid in a hospital the entire series. He has shown ZERO signs of illness, has walked around completely fine, went on a high-altitude flight on the back of a bird. He has well-demonstrated that he is not in need of taking up hostpial resources but somehow, just completely unexplained and completely ignored by the story, he stays in a hospital room for enough time for him to completely coat the entire room in posters like he owns the place. What the fuck, does he just have some hospital nurse fetish and is rich enough to just extravagantly rent a hospital room and pay the staff to pamper him? Does he get off on having a nurse shove a catheter up his dick? The fuck is this little bitch's problem?
