I unironically liked Monster Rancher Advance. Dat comfy life just chilling on my farm, training my monsters, fusing new ones, while waiting for the tournaments to roll into town.
Also what I enjoy about Animal Crossing. Probably some overlap there.

I'd love Pokemon to adopt the same sort of calendar system, where certain tournaments occur every season, and with it comes new opportunities.

Hell, given the crazy success of Animal Crossing (22 million sales vs SwSh's 18.22 million) and that game's continued player engagement, I could absolutely see Pokemon adopting a similar system of seasonal/monthly events.

Make Pokemon more sociable with trainers. Make Trainers more complex by making them flawed like regular people. A lot of what Digimon does really well is make these merchandisable characters both fun and cool while also making a show that adults and kids alike can enjoy beyond just spectacle.
You don't have to add in blood or cursing or whatever, just make better characters Oh and get better writers, I swear this franchise has some of the worst writing for people. They really don't speak or act anything like a normal person would.

The means by which you “captured” Digimon was pretty neat.

The elaborate breeding branches that fed into how specific Digimon were obtained, but none of that “only breeding with ditto” dogshit

Oh yeah, the pokemon world also really needs some fleshing out and consistency. Digimon's world works well because its explicitly well defined and understandable. Its also directly based off of reality which makes it easier for viewers to get. Pokemon is so inconstant and nonsensical that people argue about canon on a regular bases and whether or not a Pokedex entry can be trusted.

I've never really got why Pokemon need a trainer so to speak. I look at this like a boxer where they have a trainer who helps them outside of the ring, but when they hit the ring its all them and the trainer is on the sidelines cheering them on, but not actively commanding them. Why can't Pokemon be that way? The whole "Bond of Friendship" angle feels weak in Pokemon. Unless your Pokemon evolves directly via Friendship (Riolu, Buneary, etc) that phrase really feels kinda BS. There are monster capture shows that have the monster actually get stronger from the whole "Bond of Friendship" angle and its in direct correlation to that bond, but for everything.

It pretends to be Pokémon's "competition", while simultaneously being worse about a lot of the most common complaints about Pokémon, i.e. somehow having even uglier graphics and animations than SS, and designs that feel even worse like "animal but with an element slapped on it", plus blatant ripping of useless concepts like IVs, which is a thing that people DON'T like about Pokémon

I think it’s stylistically different from sword and shield because sword and shield tries to ride the fence between realism and stylization and completely shits the bed on both fronts. Temtem went hard into the second rate mobile game aesthetic, while not great is still consistent.

Even then, I still think the animations look worse. It shouldn't be possible to have even less sense of timing, weight and momentum than SS' animations, yet somehow they did it.

Its unfortunate really, I don't think there is much they can do about it at this point. They've solidified trainers as just simple trainers who just need to pet and make their pokemon happy and that's really it... The universe is locked into that.

That's kind of a fair analogy. I know what you mean, because that happens whenever I try to microwave a bowl of frozen fruit, some spots stay frozen and others somehow get crazy hot, and I'd rather the whole thing just be mildly warm.
I think Tem is less of a thing for GF to learn from, and more of a thing for other companies in the future to learn from, should they try their own hand at a monster-catching game. Temtem leaves kind of a bad taste in my mouth, because I feel like it only gets praise for "not being made by Game Freak", when it could be doing more to diversify itself, rather than copying so much of their homework that they copy the wrong answers too. I want to see GF get better competition, and I want that competition to really focus better on challenging the problems people have with modern Pokémon.

Pokemon needs to go back to their roots about them being monsters. Less high tech perfect society, gangs running about (maybe some supervillain tier but not many), humans tame the monsters to protect themselves and such.

Because when was the last time you saw a Pokemon Trainer punch the shit out of their pokemon. If that happened you know they'd be the villain.
And if you'd like a better picture. Henry was great and his brotherly relationship with Terriermon was handled greatly, Rika was awesome and her !Notromantic relationship with Renamon was what Paul's character arc wish it was, and lastly Takato while simple had a strong boy and his dog vibe that worked perfectly well for the leading figure. Not to mention Jeri... the best character, Tamers is Pokemon done right imo.
