You see, regarding these lines. What if they made some regional variants and let the males evolve but the females don't? Would that even the situation?

I think what's retarded is that male Salandits canonically don't evolve because of malnutrition from giving the females most of their food.
Surely a male Salandit owned by a trainer wouldn't have that problem.

I think a cool worldbuilding addition would be research to try and get male salandits to eat more.
