Pretty much a perfect design. Some people hate it because they're mindless contrarians, but when I imagine any other Pokemon as the mascot...I'm glad it's Pikachu instead. Most other Pokemon would be far more grating.

For a mascot of a series all about fighting, this NFE shitmon is disappointingly weak in the mainline rpgs. The only times I ever had fun using him is when he's a capable fighter. Like in Let's Go Pikachu. Or side games like Mystery Dungeon, Pokken, and Smash.

It literally wasn't. Pikachu is no more popular than, say, Bulbasaur or Eevee. It has a good number of fans but it's not on Charizard or Lucario's level when it comes to being people's number 1 favorite
But Pikachu is still the most recognizable pokémon, so most people who don't know that much about the franchise would choose it as their favorite if asked

Its evolution is better, which is sad because it gets passed up at every opportunity when it comes to publicity for Pikachu.

At least it got tossed +10 speed in Gen 6.

Used to hate Pikachu which is why I never played Yellow version as a kid, and still haven’t, but I actually love Pikachu now and use it in the games whenever I can, so maybe I’ll play it some day.
