This is a bit of a flimsy opinion. A lot of the music from the earlier gens was re-used for a lot of Pokemon media, and you're always going to have a more solid memory for the tracks you heard more.

I disagree. Maybe it's because I've listened to it as a grown-up, but the music from gens 5-6-8 (not 7 for some reason, I barely remember a single track from it) is far more memorable than any gen before it. I can remember battle themes, character themes, towns, etc.

SwSh is the best game in the series and with it the series has peaked in battle mechanics and features. The competitive metagame is actually really awesome. I'm having drastically more fun with it than I ever had with any prior gen, and honestly for as much as I liked X/Y this is just better too. The balance is actually really good by Pokemon series standards, and Dynamax is just an fantastic mechanic that the more I use it the more I'm convinced this is the best idea the series has had since the phys/spec split. The convenience features killed most of Pokemon biking simulator which was realistically most of your time investment in every Pokemon game before this one unless you were a cheater or something like that. I like being able to breed and fully train a competitive Pokemon in just a few hours instead of the eternity it took before. Ranked online actually works really well; this gen did battles better than any previous generation which are probably the single most important online feature. And max raid battles are honestly a really good feature. They're fun, and the core design of how they work is simultaneously a really cool way to farm resources (hidden abilities, candies, trs) and a neat way for four people to play together.

I think Marnie is by far the best rival we've ever had. No, I'm not a waifufag/coomer/etc. She's a nice yet competitive person with confidence in her own skills without coming off as a cocky little shit, who strives to improve and attain the same goal as you. She's a friendly rival who doesn't suck up to you and sees you for what you are, someone going after the same dream, and fights you accordingly (at least in lore). She's the perfect mix of what a rival should be. Honestly wish GF had used her a bit more, is all.

Well, here's another unpopular opinion: I actually like those stakes and plotlines. Yeah sure, Team Flare spoiled it for the bunch, but I did enjoyed Team Magma, Aqua, Galactic and Plasma's plotlines. I also like SM Aether's plotline more.

Gen 8 competitive is the best competitive scene we've ever had.
VGC has never been more alive. Ever.
6v6 singles are also the best they've ever been. I usually play competitive for a short amount of time each gen then drop the games until the next gen comes out, rinse and repeat, but this gen? I haven't stopped playing competitive. It's so fucking good and the gen 8 Pokemon all have competitive niches, EVEN the absolute shittest Pokemon in the dex. They still have something.
Heavy Duty boots is a great new item, the new tutor moves are perfect, the removal of cancer like Pursuit and HP is something I'm eternally grateful for, Pursuit in particular was an absolute blight on the game making Psychic types next to useless. The abundance of QoL features we've receieved this gen too when it comes to making competitive ready Pokemon has been a godsend. You can now even get a shiny Pokemon and make it completely competitively viable. That's never been possible before. The one thing I did bitch about a few months ago was Hidden Abilities still cucking shinies but even THAT is getting fixed with the Crown Tundra.
I too love Dynamax/Gigantamax too and it's the one mechanic I will be genuinely sad to see go once gen 9 rolls around.

Gen 8 is a masterpiece when it comes to competitive.

Sugimori did lose a few things with time but I don't think he actually got worse. In general, including the other artists, I'd say each period of Pokemon art has its good qualities, only games where I really don't like the art are XY(really awkward period between the 2d/3d transition and also a lot of the pokemon and trainer designs are bland imo, but the npc trainer art is good), SuMo(actually more love/hate in this case, I just don't like the more "silly" feel the region has to it, and a lot of the Pokemon don't do it for me, has the most dogshit 3rd version alternate forms, but I think some of it is down to personal taste) and LGPE(just don't like the proportions, certain characters like blue just don't look good in that style, he looks gay as shit)
as for the other 3D games, ORAS's redesigns are mostly really good, and SWSH has pretty good trainer designs but hit and miss pokemon designs

I don't give a fuck about competitive, or postgame, i care about how the region is to explore, memorable setpieces, and neat mons. Gen 6 is my fav, but ORAS is horribly bad and I'd rather play Ruby than Emerald.

I would agree, but the online system itself is terrible. The stamps take forever to reload, I get disconnected so easily and it takes me 5-30 to find trainers for ranked battles. Though to be fair, nearly all Switch games are wonky and laggy online

Removing HM's was a big fucking mistake.

They couldn't implement it correctly and now we have sterile puzzleless games and we will have them from here onwards.

Like it or not HM was part of the adventure, they could should have implement it better (instead of Attacks they could have made key items that certain pokemon that use the criteria could use if you had them in party), people who celebrate the removal basically the whole fandom got filtered by mt. Coronet.

Pokemon Generations made X/Y's plot tolerable
The battle vs Wally in OR/AS is the most kino battle since Red in Gold/Silver
SW/SH has the right idea and if the main plotline, difficulty, and postgame were better I might return to the mainline series

I found BW2 kind of boring to play, I had to force myself to beat it, and that's after I dropped it once. I loved the first BW and think the stockholm syndrome design of having only new Pokemon worked in it's favor, and made it more interesting. The story was more compelling than BW2 which was pretty dull in comparison.

I also never cared for the Pokemon selection, it had kind of a romhack vibe to it.

Absolutely, one of the reasons why I hate Hop(aside from being an annoying piece of shit that gets on my nerves) is because he keeps hogging all of the spotlight away from Marnie (which you don’t even battle her again until the Pokemon league) and Bede (like you basically see Hop in 80% of all the locations in the game which makes him even more annoying) and I would of absolutely rather throw out some of Hops encounters just so that Bede and Marnie can actually shine more.

LGPE is the only mainline game that is outright bad. Every other mainline game is great at beast or average at worst. SWSH has it's faults, but I wouldn't consider them outright bad because despite their faults they did some things that I felt were a step in the right direction.
