People always seem to think Smogon should be biased against stall as a default, but why is that?
It's viable while not being unbeatable. Other than being annoying to play against there is no problem with it.

Smogon isn't biased towards stall. I'm top 500 on the ladder and out of the 20 some games I've played today maybe 2 or 3 were stall.
People here just have bad confirmation bias

The thing is, stall is easy to ladder with because you don't see stall breakers until mid ladder, so people who want to jump their elo use stall until it stop being that good and only a few actually use stall in high ladder.
People here are mostly shitters and are filtered by stall between the 1100-1300 elo mark.

Are you playing 8 or 7. I agree top 500 on 7 you only see stall piloted by autistic chinks late at night but when I watched ladder tourney replays on 8 it seems like stall v stall is every game.

Since so many Smogonfags rely on stall to ladder quickly, and laddering quickly is necessary to vote in a suspect test, Smogonfags naturally want to protect stall.
So you get shit like Toxapex, which is blatantly broken, and Smogonfags don't want to get rid of it because the feeling of "Fuck, I don't have time for this" it induces at team preview is too much of a crutch.

Stalling in VGC is different.
In Smogon, there's no timer, so you can basically stall forever, but you still have to actually try to win.
In VGC, there is a timer, and if it runs out, the winner is decided by the computer. So by just doing a bit of damage and then healing up every turn, always using protect, and taking as long as possible to choose a move, you can actually win.
Smogon stall robs you of your time, while VGC stall robs you of your victory.
