I would constantly start new games because I wasn't having fun and therefore went to try a different generation to see if I liked that one any better
after about 4 or 5 tries I realised the mainline games just are not fun for me and probably never will be

Only once, encountered a glitch in Colosseum that made a rematch not available so it had to be done so I could get my ho-oh. Never finished a couple of runs in recent titles and then never even touched the carts again let alone restarted though.
