Zebras do not have a temper that differs much from a Przewalski horse, and a Przewalski horse is a domesticated horse that went feral thousands of years ago (Wild horses are completely extinct, genomic testing has proved Przewalski horses are descendants of the first domesticated horses).
Also, when West Africans started to have extended contact with North Africa and thus the rest of the Old World, they imported Horses and Camels, so the need to domesticate Zebras dropped to 0.
