The gen III events hold such a weird place in my heart since I was never able to obtain them. Probably the stuff that feels the most mythical to me in Pokémon as a whole.

pretty much anything in gen 3 that wasn't doable with one cart of Emerald felt unobtainable to me as a kid, honestly
now I look at being able to get events from flash carts, owning Colo/XD, FR/LG and link cables and being able to own that cool shit like Kanto/Johto starters and Scizor and all the other trade evos and it's like, damn, kid me would be jealous
but yeah I feel you, I only ever saw them on an emulator with gameshark codes until I was like 18 and they still feel so surreal
I really am buttmad they just replaced these with generic wormholes in OR/AS

I still love dumb shit like the eReader cards and GBA-GCN link cables, or even getting DS bonuses for GBA carts. All these stupid interconnected gimmicks. Like obtainable versions of Stop and Swop. Pokemon Stadium had a bit of that when you could get moves exclusively through it or could have your shiny Pokemon appear in minigames and the like.

I'm more mad that we haven't gotten a proper event since the first Victini event in BW. I want to go catch the mythical myself dammit.

Navel rock is so weird, it's primarily just a straight line but it has a bunch of very short tangents that all lead to nothing to give the illusion of depth

This. Navel rock, birth island, and faraway island all felt like these inaccessible, hard to reach locations as a result. I know with wifi being fully integrated into nintendo consoles this stuff won't be possible anymore, but I'd still like to actually catch the mythical instead of having it arrive as a present through mystery gift.

honestly when i first heard about wormholes in ORAS i thought this was what they were going to do, be wormholes to weird pocket dimensions where you could go catch legendaries, and each legendary or trio would have it's own separate dimension sort of based on it. would add to the spookiness factor and show that the legendaries are ethereal or otherworldly in terms of power and concept and that they reside in these weird, esoteric, cool little areas. was so fucking disappointed when i found out what they actually were, just blank copy/pastes.

i gladly give USUM a lot of shit for existing, but the ultra ruins/jungle/whatever was honestly a great concept, and i'm not at all surprised they've gone back to lazy 'fighting the legendary in a purple dimension' in SwSh.
