Unova doesn't have a god tier rpg story to rival the best fantasy out there but it's easily the best main series pokemon has done
Ghetsis tracked down the heir of the ancient king and spent years gaslighting N, only exposing him to pokemon who had suffered abuse at the hands of humans (most likely by him and his crew) and brainwashing N and the rest of his cult into believing they where going to save pokemon from humans, molding an innocent child into a pure hearted but corrupted teen to draw out the dragons, hyping N up as the rightful and rightous king of unova
The first time in Ns whole life he met a pokemon who wasn't traumatized was the player at the start, and he sees it more and more as they travel the region, thats why hes so confused an angry at the player, when N finally gets the dragon it confirms all his beliefs, only to have the other dragon show up and counter him with the player, his ideals are true, but his idea of the truth of the world isn't, and it breaks him, that kind of shit would fuck up anyone, especially a teen who grew up in a cult
Then ghetsis who is too close to having over a decade of work go to shit breaks his composure and reveals himself, it completely wrecks him, he sees the abuse and manipulation for what it is for the first time and can't cope.
He didnt just go "oh, you won, guess I was wrong." Even in BW2 he still doesn't trust humanity, who would after that?
The whole theme of BW is about exposing yourself to other people and ways of life, learning that your own preconceived ideals or truths can be misguided or stem from abusive places.
Bianca's father is abusive and she escapes it, then he learns his errors and she learns independence, Cheren has put too much pressure on himself to succeed and going out into the world teaches him that success is about personal growth, not just career growth.
I could go on but you don't care anyway
