Sand Stream is okay,but I would say Compound eyes is more useful because Flygon has a couple of good coverage moves(like Stone Edge or Iron Tail)which would benefit greatly from an accuracy bonus

But it's not even very good, Trapinch is way too slow and frail, Vibrava sucks, Flygon is sort of ok but you're stuck with shit like Dragonbreath until you teach it EQ with your one time use TM.
Gible is found relatively earlier than Trapinch, is more immediately useful as Gabite and is absolutely incredible as Garchomp from start to finish. It looks cooler and it's way stronger. But nooooooooo my heckin dragonflyerino is just soooo cooool

Certainly not in DP. Most players didnt encounter Gible on their first gen 4 adventure since you had to know the secret location it spawns in and it came in relatively late into the game (6th or 7th badge, I dont remember). Meanwhile Trapinch was found in a midgame location that pretty much every RS player went through and where it was a common encounter. It was one of the first two Dragons ever that werent locked to the lategame and which didnt suffer from retarded capture/evolution requirements. Maybe you dont like Flygon yourself but its actually pretty easy to understand why people would be fond of it from a purely casual perspective.

You can get it right after Gardenia in Platinum. And by the time Platinum came out, you likely would have become aware of the Gible cave via the Internet, it's not that well hidden of a secret.

It literally doesn't evolve until you get to around the final gym. Altaria also is unironically better than Flygon since you don't need to waste your earthquake TM on it.

Like just move things around so his ATK and SPD are above 100 and he's probably good. Obviously not as good as Garchomp or Salamence because those are pseudolegends and play with 600BST.

Dragon/Ground is mediocre defensively and pretty good offensively. He could use a better ability though.

That has nothing to do with it. A ton of Gen 1 Pokémon were just strong because there weren't very many Pokémon at the time. Scyther has a BST of 500, Kangaskhan sits at 490, as does Tauros. Mother fucking Snorlax has a BST of 540. There's no reason Flygon can't be rebalanced to be 565 or 540.

Flygon is also a three stage evolutionary line, so it should have a higher BST than Arcanine. Gen 1 just made a bunch of Pokémon overpowered compared to similar Pokémon from later generations. Single stage Kanto mons are as strong as some two stage mons (Snorlax is as strong as a three stage, and a lot of single stages are also as strong as the weaker three stage mons), and two evolution Kanto mons are as strong as some three stage mons. Of course there are some weaker 3 stage lines from Kanto like Alakazam, whose BST is the same as Scyther and only 10 higher than Electabuzz, Kangaskhan, and Tauros.

Fixed it. The BST shouldn't be over 540.

Vibrava and Trapinch have strangely low stats too so I would give Vibrava +10 Special Attack and +10 Speed, Trapinch +10 Defense and +10 Special Defense.

Yeah it's weird because compared to most online places I think /vp/ generally has better taste in regards to pokemon designs, but that being said it's important to not allow your opinions to get too easily swayed by sites like this. Golisopod, Grimmsnarl, Heracross, and Volcarona happen to be some of my personal favorites and they're /vp/ favorites too, but I also love guys like "trannypult" and "school shooter owl/lizard" and Conkeldurr of all things that usually lose me points in those rate threads (Vanilluxe too but this board is so vocally divided on that design it's crazy). I had kind of forgotten how much I liked Flygon because of how persistently this board rags on him, but using him again recently reminded me why I love him, he's cool as fuck. Good job, logic and reason will get you far in life. As for Flygon, 10 more points into either Sp.Atk or Sp.Def. + Quiver Dance would give it a new lease on life. Could be a more decent mixed attacker or wallbreaker that way, and not try to be Garchomp the lesser. Wish it were Bug/Dragon instead, but maybe a future regional variant or something will change that.

I like Flygon as a ground dragon, not every arthropod needs to be bug, especially when there are two other fitting types for them. I think just having a solid special attacking niche with quiver dance would be plenty to differentiate it from chomp, and it has a large fanbase already so it would see plenty of use, that would be just right for it. We'll get our bug dragon eventually, everyone wants one.

This is why they’re afraid to eclipse starters now. 535 is the absolute highest BST of a starter with Charizard and his gen 2 copypaste; they didn’t want to have Duraludon eclipse an existing starter pokemon, let alone one that’s the final boss’s ace.

Kind of funny that when they make any evolutionary line that’s higher than a starter BST now (Naganadel, Silvally, Urshifu) they have to justify it with a legendary or UB label.
