RPG-elements in Pokémon

Playing old jrpg's as well as DQ11 in recent weeks reminded me of Pokémon's older mechanics.

Pokémon started as a jrpg with monster collection as a gimmick, this is clearly seen through mechanics like: Dungeons/Caves with mini bosses, key items to advance the story, scarcity of TM's and other items, poison working outside of battle, minigames, grinding, postgame, etc.

But these elements have been slowly lessened or even removed throughout the games, and instead more Focus was put on the battle and collection aspects of the games.

I'm intrested in /vp/'s opinion, do you want more rpg elements in the games (like the older gens or even more) or do you care more about the battling or collecting of mons.
To clarify, I'm not asking old good and new bad, I'm asking about your preferences.
