>>44511072Basically you're going to want to do a few things:
-Do like
>>44511267 recommends and grab a sample team. If you want to try teambuilding, first establish a core of 2-3 mons, then build off on the strengths and weaknesses by what you see on the current viability rankings on smogon. i.e. if you go with a ferrothorn-toxapex core, you'll want things that can beat stuff that beats ferropex (mandibuzz is almost universally a great third pick there)
-You want to familiarize yourself with the different kinds of teams and the different kinds of roles mons will play within a team. This will eventually be important because you'll reach the point where you can identify how to wear down and take out the biggest threats to your chances of winning.
-Make use of the showdown damage calculator frequently. You're going to see everything within a pool of roughly 30-40 Pokemon in OU, so you'll want to memorize crucial damage values for and against your team. If you're using an offensive team, you want to know what kind of chip you need on certain mons to take them out with your hard hitters. If you have a defensive team, you want to know what kind of hits you'll need to survive.
-Playing and establishing familiarity with the game is really the best way to go about things. Things will begin to get difficult around 1300 ELO for newer players, so don't sweat stuff until then.
