ORAS and LGPE show how gf kinda got the scale of the world out of wack. SwSh tries to somewhat rectify this by having decorative houses and buildings that are inaccessible....but it still feels kinda small since the Gym Castles are so huge even from a distance and make the overworld feel more like a themepark.
