I sold my copy for a PS4 like a faggot back when PS4 launched
Now I check Ebay and people expect you to pay over $100 just for the game without Pokewalker

Have you played it? HGSS is honestly the best thing to come out of Pokémon ever. It would take a game incorporating all 4 of the major Japan-themed regions with a traditional art style to beat.

Try looking to see if you can open it up (there's probably guides somewhere) so you can access the contacts directly and clean them with a damp q-tip with rubbing alcohol. If it's straight-up rusted at parts and the q-tip doesn't work on it, try getting a sanding stick to sand down the rust.

Though, fair warning: I've never opened up a DS cart.
I think once you open it up you'll need a new plastic container for the cartridge. SS would need a container that matches it's original one if you want to do pokewalker stuff.

In that case, I'd recommend just trying to clean the contacts without opening it up.
If you still can't clean it up with a q-tip, try getting something metal like a flathead screwdriver and GENTLY scraping the contacts to get the rust off. Then clean it with a Q-tip again.
I wish DS carts were more like GBA and back in terms of ease to open them up.

Quite literally some of the most overrated games in the entire series right next to RSE. A "remake" that doesn't even fix the core problems with the original game

difficulty isn't what makes a pokemon game good

Actually, HGSS had a lower production run comparatively because of the Pokewalker. Also it doesn't matter if there's a ton of copies out there. If a ton of people also want to buy one and they aren't making more and a lot of people are holding on their copies, it still adds up to high demand and low supply.
