>>44528521For an actual answer it's Obstagoon, the first shown off Regional Evolution. It's a Normal/Dark type that completely goes against the theme of the line, going so far as to invert it (going from zigzags to moving in straight lines at massive speeds to not moving at all). It also loses speed, gains bulk it can't properly use, lacks any form of priority, and is obnoxiously tacky in it's design. It's signature move, Obstruct, works like King's Shield (except it halves enemy defense on contact instead of lowering attack). I also has Guts and Facade.
It's not "bad" in battle, but it's an absolute disappointment that butchered a perfect line. I'm only fine with it because of two reasons:
1: It lacks any form of priority and isn't very good at setting up. This, combined with the OG Linoone being able to learn Extreme Speed and Belly Drum now outside of events, means that the original Linoone is still perfectly viable and not outclassed or replaced by the regional form at all.
2: It's the signature mon of Piers, the Dark Type Gym Leader of the game, the only character I genuinely liked, and his Obstagoon took down 4/6s of my team on my first run of the game because Obstruct and Counter took me by surprise. So I honestly respect it, and Piers is the only character in the game I think was a good challenge. Even in the tournament post-game his Obstagoon is STILL the only thing that ever actually puts up a fight.
Also he hates Dynamaxing, refuses to use it, and even when given the chance to he'll still refuse to use it. He's even capable of beating other opponents in the Tournament who can Dynamax to face you in the final round, showing that he can actually take on anyone in the game and beat then WHILE HAVING THE DISADVANTAGE.
Piers is fucking awesome, man.
