A Pokémon changes for and gets increasing stats. They also get slightly bigger and an HP boost, they also get one Z move that the can chose from all their moves. Certain Pokémon can Z-MegaMax and you must obtain their specific Stones.

Trainer classes. You have a default one at the start of the game, and unlock others as you progress, which you can switch between by speaking to certain NPCs.

Most classes have an associated type, and encourage specialising in Pokémon of that type. This might be a passive bonus (e.g. Poison trainers upgrade regular poison to Toxic), or a Trainer Power that can be used 1/battle.

A new move is also added which changes type to match your current class.

Should add that the abilities would activate upon entry to a battle to avoid confusion. The idea was to make it fun, but not broken, so they're difficult to get and replace a pokemon's usual ability.

like megas, one pokemon per battle, once per battle but lasts as long as the pokemon does before it faints,
certain abilities reactivate or otherwise do some of their effects upon switch in/out as per usual, works with items
for example, overgrowth/blaze etc has the type's power increase in accordance to how low the hp is similar to reversal/flail instead of the flat rate at 1/3rd or below

Combo Moves. Focus of the game is primarily on double battles, and now when certain combinations of moves are used, you'll be given the option to instead perform a singular "combo move". Ex.
Harden + Seismic Toss = Ally Throw, a Rock-type move that has damage based off of the Pokémon who used Harden's defense stat.
Acid + Rain Dance = Acid Rain, which boosts both Poison and Water moves, and damages any Pokémon that isn't poison-type.
Fly + Thunderbolt = Thunder Armor, a move that damages the flying Pokémon by 1/4 of its health, but makes it so that if it is hit by any physical moves, the opponent takes 1/8 damage and gets paralyzed.
Just as random ideas off the top of my head. Of course, they come with some obvious downsides. These combo moves take up both moveslots for that turn, is performed on the turn of the slower Pokémon between the two, and obviously requires some very specific move combinations between members and good planning for synergy.

I should specify that Thunder Armor here is counted as a buff that lasts, let's say, 3-4 turns or until the Pokémon with Fly switches.

Given to all pokemon. Backwards compatible with old mons because there is only 1 possibility for the species.

Would allow for every pokemon species to have more unique flavor and personality. Offers more pokemon "useless" abilities, negative abilities, or abilities that are only useful outside of battle without sacrificing another ability. Would help balancing because OP stuff can be given unimportant or even negative innate abilities and stuff with dogshit abilities that exist for flavour can be given better ones. Note that for this to work, some abilities would have to be shuffled around so that currently non-innate abilities become innate and get replaced by different options.

As a bonus here's a laundry list of ways to evolve or obtain pokemon
>evolves while fainted at a given level
>evolves upon beating the champion and reaching HOF (so once per game)
>gifted upon beating the game's equivalent of a postagame final boss (think red, or the PWT)
>gifted by your rival after final battle
