I would say that Hoenn is the nice inbetween of convenience and adventure for the first 3/4 of the game before it shits the fan.
Then Sinnoh is just a slog and the worst despite having varied locals.
Johto only interesting parts are the towns and Kantonian routes are Trash.
Alola tried and failed, Kalos had cool routes that had unfinished areas but still looked great and Galar is mostly a Joke on Johto level where only the cities are interesting.
Seriously only Kalos, Hoenn and Unova managed to be good, what happened?
