Some are still out there, groups like project pokemon have been tracking them down to dump the data so we can have the pkm files of rare event mons both to preserve the history of the games and for injecting purposes. My mew in sun and moon is the same one you catch from faraway island. My darkrai and shaymin are from their original games as well, but I used a gameshark to access that, so I dont know if they're "legit" per se.

I mean Darkrai and Shaymin arr pretty common. Both their event items were distributed over WiFi in Platinum.
Also any Darkrai/Shaymin from DP is clearly non-legit as they were never released and ones obtained through GameShark/twitching lack the “fateful encounter” message the legit ones have.

This, if that's the case then its damn near impossible to get these legends in any legit kinda way since most were straight up Japan release only or never released like arceus. Even though they may be common, the items for darkrai and shaymin were never given in their original games, if you got one from platinum then cool, but you'll never have the original legit from DP unless you're japanese.

Most are dumped and if you have an R4 or other decent flash card you can download the ROMs, change the DS clock to the time of the distribution, and get them in your games using a second DS.
