Battle Revolution was the prettiest and the one that can get compared to Sword and Shield to some degree. Otherwise you could give the same love to Stadium, and more besides.

Battle revolution sucked compared to stadium 1+2 and Colosseum though.

Colosseum had a battle mode + an entire story campaign where you could catch the missing mons in gen 3.

BR was just a battle simulator

Yes, people hated it back in the day because of that. It's pretty clear they rushed the hell of the game and scrapped literally everything except the battle part

I have a near full roster of online passes for free battles, goof stuff. Making a shadow copy of your entire PC was a great call, I just wish it copied your bag so you could swap held items; far as I know you literally need to update the entire thing just to swap held items.

This game was incredible for it’s time and does things the main games don’t even do 12 years later on a console three times as powerful.

Saving for later reading, thanks man. God, if they'd made Genious Sonority the engine/gameplay developers and left Game Freak with concepts, character/creature designs, ect because let's be real we're never getting rid of them, then we could still have good games.

No online rankings, purely unranked. It did have an offline mechanic in which some Colosseum unlocked a series of slowly more difficult variations literally called "ranks", rather than being formal cups.

So Genius had to get the DS connection working well prior to the Wii launch (D/P coming out in 2006 in Japan), then 10 months of actual game development post-modeling, if I am reading that correctly. That is definitely brisk. The Japanese version not having anamorphic 16:9 mode is odd, you would think implementing that would be a prominent thing in the Wii dev manual.

That's mostly because turn bases rpgs are in a massive downturn. Most of the competition are budget titles from small companies

Hell, Genius Sonority did it for Gale of Darkness with the shadow moves right before DP so I wouldn't be surprised if 1: Game Freak got the idea from them and/or 2: the only reasons they didn't implement it across the board was TPC intervention and so that pokemon from the other gen 3 games didn't perform unexpectedly different.
