You seem to have missed the very important part where I said it was strong for EARLY game.
Butterfree, Beedrill, Dustox, Beautifly, Kricketune...they're meant to be decently powerful at the beginning since they evolve very quickly. They're not meant to be used afterwards. Butterfree is directly inferior to Venomoth in practical terms, and even moreso by actual Psychic types.
