Lusamine intentionally designed her outfit and hairstyle to look similar to pheromosa, and made Lillie dress to look like nihilego. It's not as up front as the shapeshifter theory, but I think it's satisfying.

They probably didnt want to deal with the confusion of people capturing pokemon that took the forms of real people. It would raise too many questions like if they can change back and forth, how that would impact battling, and other weird shit

Most ppl assumed Hala was guzzlord due to both being fat, and Gladion being buzzswole cause of the color scheme. Gf just honestly shot themselves in the foot when they said shit like Nihilego copies the movements of a young girl and sort of acts like one too just days after they showed Lillie to us. It didnt help that she was Cosmog's keeper so ppl thought she as a pokemon disguised as a human was guarding it

Nothing has been confirmed, but a "leaker" says aliens were originally supposed to be a part of the XY plot. Leaker is in quotes because I'm not sure how credible they are.

If you are talking about pheromosa, that's true.
She looked so calm and nice in the game, and is refered as "docile" in the pokedex. But the anime portrayed her as an unbehaved, manipulative creature.
I'm grateful she appeared on the anime, but I don't like how she was represented.
