I don't think it will be a big plot point, but I think there will be some more obvious reference to it. Maybe Cyrus will have a computer in his command room that looks like a Rotom, or maybe he'll even have one on his team.

Yeah.
I mean, their friendship was arguably canon since Platinum but they kept the author of pic related very vague. The toy robot, Charon getting ahold of the notebook and especially the way the entry is written hint at a younger Cyrus though, imo.
