>>44562811>Mawile>Decent or even mediocre before mega evolutionIt was shit, completely shit before it was graced by a Mega. It and Beedrill are by far standouts as to how much a mega can benefit a Pokemon.
>>44561059>muh 2 charizard megasEvery fucking time, some stupid fuck like you chimes in with this bullshit argument. Was Charizard getting two megas a shill move? Absolutely. But it NEEDED one mega, at least. Charizard had been down in the dregs of NU since sneaky pebbles' introduction and gen IV's overall power creep. Before XY, Charizard was the poster child for low tier Pokemon that casuals thought were super amazing. There's nothing wrong with a popular Pokemon getting a buff, what could possibly be wrong with something people like becoming usable in competitive?
If you wanna complain about Pokemon that didn't need megas, there's so many better examples. Gengar, Tyranitar, Scizor, Gyarados, Garchomp, Blaziken, Salamence, FUCKING RAYQUAZA, and MEWTWO GETTING TWO.
And none of that changes the fact that it helped more needy Pokemon than it did already powerful Pokemon. Pincer, Ampharos, Houndoom, Manectric, Gardevoir, Banette, Absol, Abomasnow, Altaria, Sharpedo, Pidgeot, Gallade, Lopunny, even the aforementioned Beedrill and Mawile. Some of these Pokemon were already popular, sure, but all of them were subpar competitively.
The harsh reality of this game is that oftentimes many otherwise great Pokemon are kinda dogshit in competitive for one reason or another. Any mechanic that can elevate these Pokemon enough to play with the meta is a good thing, IMO. It's a crying shame we're never going to see any such thing again.
